If you're in New Orleans...

I've been thinking about where to suggest you visit while you're in town. Here's my list of must-dos, if you'd like to feel like a native.

1. See a brass band. Thursday nights at Le Bon Temps are good for that.
2. Have a beignet at Cafe du Monde (We only do it when family's in town, but man, do we love the excuse).
3. Drink for CHEAP and people-watch at Ms. Mae's. You can even talk to Ms. Mae herself. She's always at the bar.
4. Eat free crawfish at R Bar on Fridays.
5. Catch a show at Tipitina's.
6. Eat a shrimp po boy at just about any corner store. If it costs more than $5, it's A. not worth it and B. not that good.
7. Wander up and down Frenchman Street. I like to buy a tallboy and sit on a stoop.
8. Have some paella at Lola's.
9. Go for a run (or a walk) in City Park. Or the Fly.
10. Talk to a stranger. That's the best part of the city, the best way to find out what's good, and the best way to feel like a local.
